Serra delle Ciavole: The pachyderms’ graveyard

Spectacular skeletons of Bosnian pines on a long but not too hard hike. Surely the most beautiful excursion to enjoy the extension and the uniqueness of the landscape. This hike is long but has moderate difficulty. It is said that the Elephants, close to the end of their life, usually go to die in so-called "elephant graveyards". The first time I walked in Serra delle Ciavole (1981) I had the impression of walking through a elephants' graveyard and for this reason I used the expression "Graveyard of Bosnian Pine" because it seemed that our arboreal pachyderms, like elephants, died the same way. An amazing excursion, enriched by the charm of the Piani di Pollino which you have to cross to enjoy all their spatiality.

  • Verdi - Non siamo allenati. È la prima volta che pratichiamo l’escursionismo in montagna. Abbiamo bambini alla loro prima esperienza. Siamo una scuola. Abbiamo scarpe da ginnastica e da trekking.
  • Gialle - Andiamo spesso in montagna ma non vogliamo/possiamo fare percorsi accidentati con sentieri sconnessi. Andiamo spesso in montagna e i nostri bambini sono abituati a camminare. Siamo una scuola con esperienza di trekking. Abbiamo scarpe da trekking o buone scarpe da ginnastica.
  • Rosse - Andiamo spesso in montagna. Siamo abituati ad affrontare sentieri difficili e siamo attrezzati contro le cattive condizioni climatiche. Abbiamo scarpe da trekking.
